Yesterday on a beautiful Saturday, Scarborough Thunder Tyke, Atom, Bantam, Jr. Varsity and Sr. Varsity teams had their home openers.

The Thunder Tyke (6-8) team, played their second game of the season and their first game at home against the Brampton Bulldogs. The Thunder Tykes played an excellent all around game, beating the Bulldogs Tykes 36-18, pushing their record to 2-0. Standout Thunder players in the Tyke game were QB Raine Thomas and LB Elijah Martin. Offensively, Rain ran for a 60 yard TD and threw 70 yard TD. Defensively, Elijah controlled the defense, he was all over the field, making over 10 tackles.

The Thunder Atom (9-10) team played the Etobicoke Eagles Atom team and came out the gates very slow. However, they never folded and with perseverance and teamwork, they played together and came away with a 25-6 victory, pushing their record to 2-0. Standout Thunder player was QB Brayden Chuck, who showed great leadership as team captain during a tough first half as the offense struggled and with his poised demeanour, Brayden took advantage of the Eagles mistakes, guiding our Atom team to a commanding lead in the second half.

The Thunder Peewee (11-12) team, had a BYE week.

The Thunder Bantam (13-14) team, played a very talented Etobicoke Eagles Bantam team and came away with a 22-6 victory, making them 3-0 in the early part of the season. Offensively, standout players were TE Deshane Jackson-Barker who scored 2 TD's and the Gangadeen brothers, Anthony and Shane, who both made a bunch of catches from the Receiver position, many of those catches being some very tough catches in some tight spots. Another standout player was DE Mohamed Yassine, who this week had another big game. Mohamed was all over the field, with a team game high, 5 solo tackles. In addition to the many tackles, his biggest one happened on a forced fumble that he also recovered and returned for a TD. Another standout player was CB Damian McKinney. Damian had his defensive skills tested against Etobicoke and successfully helped lead the team past his team's toughest opponents this season. He also recorded his first career interception among making several key tackles. Last but not least, another standout player was Colby Brine who went both ways, dominated the line on both sides of the ball from the OG and DT positions.

The Thunder Jr. Varsity (15-16) team played in the most exciting game of the day, coming back after being down by 19 points, but felt short 40-37 to a very fast and explosive Etobicoke Eagles Jr. Varsity team. Standout Thunder player was RB Malik Williams. Malik had a dominating performance, finishing the game with 163 yards on 21 carries, averaging 7.7 yards per carry, scoring 2 TD's, one of those for 51 yards, completed 1 pass for 8 yards and also rushing for 10 first downs.

Last but not least, Thunder Sr. Varsity (17-19) team was also in action, playing the Etobicoke Eagles. The squad had a very rough first half, and though they played a lot better in the second half, just wasn't enough, loosing 29-9 to the Eagles. Standout Thunder player was WR Kiondre Smith, who scored the only major for the home squad.

Great job to all the coaches and managers on all teams and to all the parents who came out to Birchmount Stadium, supported and cheered our players on.
