2010 and 2011 will see some changes to the Age Divisions in Ontario Minor Football. The governing bodies, the Ontario Football Alliance and Football Canada are implementing, and encouraging all its members to implement, the L.T.A.D. (Long Term Athlete Development) plan as established by the International Sporting Community. Information on the L.T.A.D. is available for download in the Files and Forms section of the website in the Other Documents Category. More information will be made available in the coming weeks regarding the House League divisions , and at this time the O.V.F.L. will not make changes until the 2011 season. C.O.M.F.L. will be moving to the new Age divisions and this will be confirmed in the coming weeks. Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL)

SMFA fields three teams in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) program. The teams are called the Junior Varsity, Senior Varsity and Bantam Toronto Thunder. The players age ranges from 13 to 19.  The OVFL has been around for quite sometime and is a major attraction for High School level players who wish to compete against the best players in Ontario. Many of SMFA Toronto Thunder Varsity players use the OVFL to gain experience for scholarship opportunities and a possible Pro career. Just in 2006, SMFA had 6 former players who competed in the Canadian Football League (CFL) Grey Cup Championship.  In 2007, we had 2 more former players in the Grey Cup championship and are proud to share that we have one who has signed on with the Indianapolis Colts. At the university level 14 players from our 2009 OVFL Championship team have graduated on to university and are enrolled in their football programs.  The SMFA Toronto Thunder Varsity program is a well structured and coordinated program that is run by dedicated volunteers.   The practice for this program starts in February, with the regular season begins in June and ends in early August. To register please see our Registration section for details.

COMFL- FALL REP PROGRAM

In 2011, the SMFA tackle APB (Atom, Peewee and Bantam) program will have three teams competing in the Central Ontario Minor Football League (COMFL) .The COMFL is a well establish league that has been ongoing for years. This league is comprised of teams from Ajax/Pickering, Burlington, Clarington, Newmarket, North York, Scarborough, Oshawa, Hamilton, Markham, Niagara Falls and joining this year Mississauga and Brampton. For the returning players, you will note that there is no Tyke division this year.  This is due to the changes brought forward by Football Canada and  adopted by the COMFL membership. The changes were part of the LTAD or Long Term Athletic Development program.  This LTAD is designed to match the ages and titles associated with other sports.  As a result, the Division formerly known as Tyke is now called Atom.  The former Atom Division is now called Peewee and the former Peewee Division is called Bantam.

House League

In 2007, the SMFA launched its house league at the flag level.  In 2008, the program was changed to a tackle program at the request of the participants. In 2010 the SMFA had 4 teams at each of the Atom and Peewee divisions and will continue this in 2011 as well in 2010 we added a 10 week indoor training session to cover the basic fundamantals before going outdoors in April. Indoor Training will be held at the Major League Sportsplex Dome, 641 Danforth Ave. commencing February 27th 5-7pm then Sundays 3-5pm until April 17th. We start practicing Mondays and Wednesdays 6:30pm-8:30pm at the Sportsplex Dome as of April 18th with games on Friday nights until July 8th. Our house league program is also one of the least expensive sports in the Province. For more information on this program and more, please refer to the registration section of our web site.
